The Adventures
of Breaking Into the Wonderful World of Acting
By
Ken Petersen
I just had to put this into
proper context and allow my readers to grasp an incredible
story of "right place at the right time".
That is really the only way I
can explain what happened last week. (Oct 1ish). I had
been looking over the local listings for casting calls in
the NY, Long Island area. This was nothing new, I have one
talent company who sends me weekly information, even
though I have NEVER done anything like it.
Possibly it is following a
dream.
OK, so I have 20 years as a
DJ entertainer, hosting private parties, weddings, and
gala events. This was a start for a couple reasons. Being
onstage, spot lighted and also help me create a tremendous
vocal ability.
Additionally I was a "civil
war" model for Mr. Don Troiani, from
historicalartprints.com fame. Don has been featured on
several occasions on the history channel as an authority
on civil war. I was fortunate to be painted into 3 prints
and a Civil War uniform book!
OK back to the story at hand,
(oh wait... all the regular stuff I do helping schools get
athletic equipment is still going strong, and done by
day). Ok so this curtain call for the play " Carousel" was
taking place in the town of Old Bethpage on Long Island.
When my time came up and I had to audition I was totally
unprepared. No one had mentioned anything about a
"headshot", or a musical piece from any broadway play I
was to know. The part I felt I was going to go for didn't
require singing anyhow. Well the director didn't buy my
ignorance, and had me sing the scale with the music
director. He stepped back and said "wow, what a voice",
the next day I got called back, and given a great part!
At the same time I had
"volunteered" to be an extra in the upcoming movie "Video
Guys" to be released July 08.
The same thing happened, the
director heard my voice, asked me if I currently did
voiceovers and if not, he would direct me to the right
people, than offered me a costarring role in the movie!!!
I played a priest, and my
entire shoot was that day! It was an easy role, I kept the
script in my bible and performed a marriage ceremony. I
was also asked to adlib"where needed". Now mind you, I am
freakin new! Well see the movie, all went very well, it
was extremely fun, I blessed everyone after the shoot was
over and now expect to be doing more in the near future!!
Let me know you comments on
this one.
It just doesn't stop!
WAIT, thats not all! Since
writing this last October,( One year ago), I have appeared
in 3 movies, 2 plays and one commercial. The first movie
mentioned ( The Video Guys) above is due for release mid
Jan 2009!
The 2nd movie, Let Me Out, I
portrayed "Nick the bartender", and was in a few different
scenes, speaking parts in all of them.
The last movie, The
Scoundrel, I portrayed "The Landlord".

I give sports equipment to
schools, leagues and towns at no charge, by offering
the opportunity of becoming a sponsor on the projects
to local, regional and national advertisers and
businesses. I work by referrals for 85% of my
sponsors, and secure the equipment thru the various
equipment companies. A scoreboard, for instance can
come from any manufacturer the client chooses. ANd NOW
I am a freakin ACTOR!
