By Jack Gipson

Getting involved in the acting business is not always so easy. It takes both passion and perseverance if you are going to succeed. If you love the idea of getting involved in acting, you'll find that it can be a challenge, but the work is definitely rewarding. Wondering how you can get started and on your way? Wondering how to become an actor? Well, here are some of the steps that can help you to become an actor.

Move to the Right Area

First of all, if you are going to become an actor, you are going to need to move to the right area. In the end you may need to end up in Los Angeles or New York, but even other large cities that have a great community in film and theater are great choices when you are starting out.

Get Involved in an Acting Education

It's important that you get involved in an acting education if you want to know how to become an actor. A great actor will continue to study for their whole life. Get into great classes that will help you to become an even better actor.

Have Headshots Taken

You will need to have headshots taken as well. You won't be able to go anywhere in an acting career without good headshots. Make sure that you have several done and have copies made.

Write a Top Notch Resume

A top notch resume is also important. Include work that you have done so far and also make sure that you include training that you are going through as well. If you have a large amount of professional work, leave off the work that is not so professional, like plays from high school.

Send Your Resume and Headshots to Agents and Casting Directors

Once you have your resume done and your headshots back, send them out to agents and casting directors. Include a cover letter as well. Every few months you should be following up. You can do this with a post card. Let them know about new projects you are working on.

Take Time to Read Trade Papers

Taking the time to read trade papers is important. Know what films or plays are going to be cast, then you can send headshots when you are interested in getting cast in a play or film. Some of the best papers to read include "Dramalogue," "Variety," and "Backstage."

Attend Parties and Events

If there are parties and events that are related to the acting industry, make sure that you accept the invitation to go to them. You'll be able to meet other professionals in the industry and networking and knowing others in the acting industry is very important if you want to become an actor.
